about
I spent countless hours at Green Hill Zone between 1991 and 1994. I revisited recently. After a long flight and a short drive, I found Green Hill exactly where it used to be, but it was smaller than I remembered. I used to play in the grass with my family, friends, and pets. I'd draw new Sonic levels and comics all day. But without all of those things, it was just a mud pile. The hill didn't share my excitement. I hid my disappointment. I lay on the ground, closed my eyes, and soaked in the sun.
I had a dream. I recognized Sonic, who was eating a chili dog. Before I could speak, he said, "Hey buddy... why are you getting so worked up about that mound of dirt? You know, there are tons of hills out there. I know because I've seen them. And some of them are way greener. But you'll never find them if you don't move forward. I bet there are awesome hills where you live, and friends and family and pets and toys to play with there."
He could tell he wasn't getting through to me, so he knelt down and said, "Look - you can't change the past, you gotta go fast! If you go fast, you don't have time to look behind you. And maybe that's why life seems so rad to me and so sad to you. You've been spending all your time looking for green hills behind you. Try looking for green hills ahead!"
